Protect Kratom in Louisiana
June Update: Louisiana Criminalizes Kratom
It is with great disappointment that we inform you that the State of Louisiana has officially criminalized kratom. The new law will go into effect this August, making it a crime for the estimated 325,000 kratom consumers in the state to continue using a product that has helped so many lead better lives.
To all the Louisiana advocates who stood up, shared their stories, called legislators, and fought so hard—we see you, we are with you, and we are deeply sorry for this outcome. And to every advocate across the country who took time to lend support in this battle: thank you. Your voices mattered, and they were heard.
While we lost this round, the American Kratom Association (AKA) is not walking away. We will return to the Louisiana Legislature next session to fight for a real solution—one that protects consumers through science-based regulation, not criminalization.
This was not a fair fight. The rise in dangerous synthetic products and deeply biased legislative rhetoric stacked the deck against us from the beginning. But even in the face of this injustice, we remain undeterred.
Our movement has always been about hope, facts, and compassion. That doesn't end in Louisiana—it strengthens our resolve to protect kratom consumers everywhere.
Thank you for standing with us.
With appreciation and determination,
The American Kratom Association
